These pages was made using the following tools:
- reStructuredText
- Fedora Linux
- Python
- The Gimp
- Emacs
- Apache
- Lynx
- Firefox
This site is written entirely using only reStructuredText and CSS. The HTML files are generated using a simple Makefile running rst2html of the appropriate source files which are controlled by a Subversion repository. The layout is controlled by a simple stylesheet. The diary RSS feed is created at build time, by first converting the source file into XML and then running it though a XSLT using xsltproc.
A big advantage with using reStructuredText is that your HTML becomes validated XHTML 1.0. Which in turn should make these pages look their best with Any Browser (tm) ;-)
I felt that Zope, Plone, php/msql, or similar would be overkill on a site like this, but I still wanted it to be very easy to maintain. With reStructuredText I can use any old editor and just write simple text. This also makes it simple to parse and spell check with standard tools. This goes well with the philosophy of "Keep It Simple Stupid" and "Less is More" with I'm very much a subscriber to.
